Blends

The key to the manufacturing of blends is keep it simple. Our range of off the shelf blends is small but their uses are kept very general while still able to meet stock performance requirements. Many of our blends can be fed to more than one class of livestock, allowing you to purchase in bulk and feed at differing rates and sometimes in combination with different raw materials to stock on the farm safely and effectively.

blends
In the past farmers have been led to believe that a blend cannot deliver the production level that can be achieved with a comparable compound. Our twenty years of experience has proved that this is not the case, and in many cases a blend can deliver a performance level far exceeding that of some supposedly equivalent compound feeds. This is so, because of factors such as palatability, slower degradation of some raw materials in the rumen due to reduced processing and choice of some raw materials, which would not be viable for use in a compound feed.

Blend Range

Parlour Blend

This highly palatable, fully mineralised blend of pelleted raw materials is screened and is both flowable and consistent in pellet size allowing its use in parlour feeders. The level of molassed sugar beet pellets and grass pellets offer a high degree of digestible fibre and are an excellent source of rumen available energy that promotes rumen function and gut stability. Balanced starch and sugars stimulate this balanced fermentation and microbial growth in a healthy rumen. The high energy of the feed makes it capable of supporting high levels of milk production. Parlour blend has a low oil content which also contributes to stable rumen function and helps to maximise forage intakes. This blend has been found to be particularly good in the following situations:

•Where a high level of rolled cereals is to be fed out of parlour.
•Where grass silage is of low pH and acid conditions are affecting feed intake.
•Where cows are turned out to high nitrogen, lush spring grass, parlour blend has been found to slow rumen outflow and help with gut stability, reducing nitrogen imbalance in the gut.

Dairy Blend

The specification of this product is nearly identical to parlour blend, but with a molasses coating and not screened. The blend offers many of the same advantages. More suitable for feeding as part of an out of parlour ration with silage and other forages. This product is also safe for feeding to other cattle and has been found to be particularly good in combination with rolled cereals. Highly palatable due to its molasses coating this blend when fed in combination with poor quality grass silage will help intakes.

Hogg Blend

Our most popular product to date. This blend is suitable for feeding to both lambs , ewes, dairy cows and beef cattle. Its most impressive application is for the ad-lib feeding of fattening lambs. The key to this success is the balance of high quality proteins, starch and sugars and digestible fibre combined with excellent palatability which encourages high daily feed intakes, through its molasses coating and ability to promote rumen stability. Lambs when fed high levels of this product will convert feed intake to meat efficiently and quickly. We believe that the product is able to promote lean meat production on the carcass, improving killing out percentage.

Beef Blend

This product is most suitable for fattening beef animals, but can also be used as a mid-day feed for dairy cows and as a youngstock feed for dairy replacements.. This feed has given best results when fed along side grass silage in beef growing and finishing systems. The buffering capacity of the digestible fibre from sugar beet helps with the digestion of grass silage, maximising rumen function. For stronger cattle this product can be mixed with rolled cereals to lower the protein level thus reducing the products growing potential and increasing dietary starch level to improve fattening capability.

Langthorne Blend

This blend has been specially developed for the changeover of cattle from grass based systems to cereal based diets. This product is not mineralised however cattle are not kept on the product for a long length of time and the need for a full mineral specification is reduced, this frees space in the diet for improved nutrient levels. The key to the success of this product is the ability of the animal to continue to perform even in the transition period. Many cheaper mineralised changeover type diets leave the animal losing ground during the transition period because they are not high enough in available energy for adequate rumen function. The digestible fibre in this diet allows the rumen to function properly while the animal adapts to the new diet.
